NEX-PLUG-50

Nex-Plug-50 is a smart panel with an Electric Vehicle Energy Management System (EVEMS) including one NEMA14-50 plug to connect a plugged-in EV charger.
This smart panel featuring one embedded Nema14-50 plug will reduce installation cost and enables seamless connection of an electric vehicle charger to the electrical panel, even in cases where the panel lacks the necessary capacity for a direct connection.
The Nex-Plug-50 smart panel can be utilized for single house as a STANDALONE MODE and for townhouses as a NETWORKABLE MODE including a real-time clock.

  • INPUT: 208/240 VAC
    CONTROL VOLTAGE: 24 VDC 2A
    DIMESNION : 16”x16”x8”
    WORKING TEMPERATURE:-20°C to  +40°C
    STORAGE TEMPERATURE: -20°C TO  +40°C
    OUTPUT: 1xNema 14-50  208/240 VAC
    ENCLOSURE TYPE: NEMA 3R
    WEIGHT:28 lb

How It Works:

  • Continuously monitors the real-time total power consumption of the home's electrical panel.
  • Detects instances when the total power consumption surpasses 80% of the main circuit breaker's capacity and initiates a temporary de-energization of the EV charger.
  • Automatically restores power to the EV charger when the total power consumption of the electrical panel remains below 80% of its capacity for a duration exceeding pre-programmed time.
  • Requires the availability of a double pole breaker slot in the panel.(Installation Method 1 only)

What is EVEMS in general terms, and how does it work in the EV charging world?

An Electric Vehicle Energy Management System (EVEMS) is designed to manage the electrical load of EV chargers, ensuring that they do not exceed the capacity of a building’s electrical infrastructure. This is particularly important for multi-unit residential buildings (MURBs) and commercial properties, where multiple EV chargers can create significant demand on the electrical system.

EVEMS controls and distributes the available electrical load among connected EV chargers. It allows for real-time monitoring and adjustments to prevent overloading the system. This helps avoid the need for costly electrical upgrades or increased service sizes, which can be complex and expensive.
The EVEMS is especially beneficial in settings where electrical capacity is limited. For instance, a typical residential electrical panel might be unable to handle the additional load of an EV charger without tripping breakers or overheating. Using an EVEMS, the total power consumption is managed efficiently, ensuring that EV chargers operate within the safe limits of the existing electrical infrastructure.
Overall, EVEMS provides a practical solution for integrating EV charging infrastructure into existing buildings, supporting the transition to electric vehicles while avoiding significant electrical upgrades.

What are the EVECTRIX NEX-PLUG/TWIN key features that differentiate this smart panel from other vendors in the market ?

EVECTRIX smart NEXT PLUG panels are equipped with industrial type of components such as its unique PLC, HMI, and contractors. The intelligent panel can read the electricity consumption in real-time and distribute the available power in 1 Amp increments, while the other vendors do not utilize industrial grade components and mainly use power relays as opposed to contractors, and indeed do not use any HMI or any industrial grade innovative PLC. In addition, each device will be equipped with one or two (TWIN version) with installed NEMA 14-50 plugs, so the client can simply connect their L2 charger directly to the complete smart panel and enjoy charging their EV flawlessly.

How are EvectriX EVEMS products coming to play a significant role in BC's electrification journey?

EVECTRIX Smart EVEMS panels enhance and facilitate the EV Level 2 charging requirements without requiring a costly panel upgrade (usually from 100 Amp to 200 Amp, which can cost approximately $8000-$15000, or in some cases up to $25,000).

What is the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN?

The NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN is a smart panel designed as an Electric Vehicle Energy Management System (EVEMS). It is available in versions with either one or two NEMA 14-50 plugs for connecting electric vehicle (EV) chargers. It can also be ordered as a hard wire without NEMA 14-50 plugs being assembled to the device.

How does the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN function?

It continuously monitors the total power consumption of the home’s electrical panel through the two Current Transformer (CT) sensors. Therefore, the smart panel can de-energize the EV charger(s) when consumption exceeds 80% of the total main breaker’s capacity and restore power when consumption drops below the programmed threshold for pre-programmed time.

Who should install the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN?

Installation must be conducted by a certified electrician following National and Local Electrical codes to maintain the product’s one-year spare warranty.

What are the electrical requirements for installing the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN?

It operates on 208/240 VAC, up to 200A. One of the installation methods requires a double pole 40/50 Amp breaker slot in the panel.

What safety precautions should be taken when installing the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN?

Please refer to the EVECTRIX installation manual and the Video posted on their website, www.EVECTRIX.com. Always ensure the power supply to the charging system is completely shut off before installation. Verify the absence of voltage with suitable testing equipment, follow all provided safety guidelines and local codes, and indeed carefully read the warning information prior to any installation.

What should be done if the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN panel shows signs of defect or damage?

Cease using the panel immediately, and do not attempt repairs. Contact the manufacturer for support.

Where should the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN be installed?

The most proper location would be as close as possible to the main electrical panel. It must NOT be installed near any flammable materials or in enclosed spaces that lack adequate ventilation. Ensure it is grounded according to local electrical codes.

What are the warranty conditions for the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN?

The spare warranty remains valid only if the panel is installed by a certified electrician and the warranty paperwork has been filled and signed by the certified electrician and emailed to info@EVECTRIX.com for reference and activation period (max one year after the installation date). In addition, all of the manufacturer guidelines, warnings, and required activities must be followed. Warranty details will be affected/voided by improper installation
or unauthorized repairs/installations.

How does the NEX-PLUG-50/TWIN handle circuit overloads?

The system automatically manages the load by temporarily disconnecting the EV charger during high-power consumption periods and reconnecting once safe levels are restored
